CEMENT DEFICIT: PRESIDENT BUHARI COMMENDS BUA GROUP FOR BRIDGING THE GAP

President Muhammadu Buhari Friday applauded the BUA Group for its strides in narrowing the gap between demand and supply of cement in the country.

The President spoke at State House, Abuja, while receiving a top delegation from BUA Group, led by the Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu, which was on a thank you visit.

President Buhari had last month visited Sokoto to commission the Line 4 of BUA Cement, which would ensure further availability of cement, of which Nigeria suffers about three million tonnes deficit.

“I want to congratulate you on your success,” the President told the BUA Group Chairman. “And I thank you for mobilizing senior members of your Group to come and say thank you to me. It is remarkable. What you have done in bridging the gap of cement supply in the country is quite commendable. You have proven that the productive capacity of a country is very important.”

Alhaji Rabiu said BUA Group was currently building more factories in two different parts of the country, which will contribute about six million additional tonnes to cement supply.

He added: “Your presence at the commissioning of our Line 4 sends a strong message of commitment to industrialization of our country. Like you often say, we need to add value to what we produce with locally sourced raw materials, and we remain committed to it. We are ready to work with the Federal Government, and all other relevant stakeholders. The consistent effort of the Government in supporting local capacity has helped us a great deal.”

The BUA Group Chairman said the support of President Buhari for Nigerian enterprise was unflinching, “and we are encouraged to add more value.”

He further thanked the President for what he called his “forthrightness, vision, and passion for Nigeria.”

ELECTORAL ACT: WE’RE BEQUEATHING A LASTING LEGACY WITH NEW ELECTION LAWS, SAYS PRESIDENT BUHARI

*ASKS THAT SECTION 84 (12) BE DELETED

President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja said The Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2022, passed by the National Assembly, holds a lot of promise for improving the election processes in the country, with introduction of new technology, and efforts to engender clarity and transparency.

At a signing ceremony held at the State House, President Buhari, however, highlighted the need to amend section 84(12), which contravenes the rights of political office holders to vote, or be voted for in political party conventions and congresses.

“Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members of the National Assembly, from the review it is my perspective that the substance of the Bill is both reformative and progressive. I am making this bold declaration because I foresee the great potentials of the Bill. Worthy of note include the democratic efficacy of the Bill with particular reference to sections 3, 9(2), 34, 41, 47, 84(9), (10) and (11) among others.

“This, however, cannot be said about one provision as contained in the proposed Bill, which provision constitutes fundamental defect, as it is in conflict with extant constitutional provisions.

“Section 84 (12) constitutes a disenfranchisement of serving political office holders from voting or being voted for at Conventions or Congresses of any political party, for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election in cases where it holds earlier than 30 days to the National Election,’’ he said.

Quoting the section, “84(12) No political appointee at any level shall be voting delegate or be voted for at the Convention or Congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election,” the President noted it had introduced qualification and disqualification criteria that ultra vires the Constitution by way of importing blanket restriction and disqualification to serving political office holders of which they are constitutionally accorded protection.

Adding:

“The practical application of section 84(12) of the Electoral Bill, 2022 will, if assented to, by operation of law, subject serving political office holders to inhibitions and restrictions referred to under section 40 and 42 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

“It is imperative to note that the only constitutional expectation placed on serving political office holders that qualify, by extension as public officers within the context of the constitution is resignation, withdrawal or retirement at least 30 days before the date of the election.

“Hence, it will be stretching things beyond the constitutional limit to import extraneous restriction into the constitution on account of practical application of section 84(12) of the bill where political parties’ conventions and congresses were to hold earlier than 30 days to the election.

“Arising from the foregoing, with particular regards to the benefits of the Bill, industry, time, resources and energy committed in its passage, I hereby assent to the Bill and request the Nationally Assembly consider immediate amendments that will bring the Bill in tune with constitutionality by way of deleting section 84(12) accordingly.’’

President Buhari commended the National Assembly for their commitment and dedication to improving the previous Electoral Bill 2021.

“It is gratifying to note that the current Bill comes with a great deal of improvement from the previous Electoral Bill 2021. There are salient and praiseworthy provisions that could positively revolutionize elections in Nigeria through the introduction of new technological innovations. These innovations would guarantee the constitutional rights of citizens to vote and to do so effectively.

“The Bill would also improve and engender clarity, effectiveness and transparency of the election process, as well as reduce to the barest minimum incidences of acrimony arising from dissatisfied candidates and political parties.

“These commendable efforts are in line with our policy to bequeath posterity and landmark legal framework that paves the way for credible and sound electoral process that we would all be proud of,’’ he said.

The President said he received inputs from relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government, after careful and thorough reviews of the Bill and its implications to democratic processes, before signing The Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill 2022 into law.

President Buhari noted that the National Assembly forwarded the Electoral Bill for Presidential Assent, via a letter dated 31st January, 2022.

PDP Dismisses Purported Impeachment of Zamfara Deputy Governor

…says Mohammed Gusau Remains Legitimate Deputy Governor

After an extensive review of the issues, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) dismisses the claims by the Zamfara State House of Assembly that it has impeached the democratically elected Deputy Governor of the State, His Excellency Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed Gusau.

The purported impeachment of the Deputy Governor Mahdi Aliyu Gusau by the sequestered Zamfara State House of Assembly, which has been annexed by the Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle cannot stand as the entire process remain unconstitutional, illegal and as such a nullity.

It is instructive to state that by virtue of the Order of the Federal High Court, Abuja in Suit Number FHC/ABJ/CS/ 650/2021 and pursuant to section 109 (1)(g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) the Zamfara State House of Assembly as presently constituted has no constitutional standing to undertake any legislative action let alone claim to have impeached the Deputy Governor of the State on any ground whatsoever.

The import of the case is that by virtue of Section 109(1)(g), the members of Zamfara State House of Assembly constitutionally lost their seats when they recklessly cross-carpeted to the All Progressives Congress (APC) when there is no division in the PDP.

It is imperative to inform Nigerians that the Federal High Court had on July 19, 2021 granted an order directing the maintenance of status quo ante bellum, regarding any action against the Deputy Governor, which was duly served on the Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Chief Judge of Zamfara State and Governor Bello Matawalle.

The purported impeachment of the Deputy Governor as induced, orchestrated and choreographed by Governor Matawalle, the Chief Judge of Zamfara State and the Zamfara State House of Assembly is therefore not only an exercise in futility but also an affront to the Rule of Law by the APC and Governor Matawalle.

It is unfortunate that the Chief Judge of Zamfara State who should be a defender of the Rule of Law will allow herself to be used to desecrate the Order of Court and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which she swore to uphold. The PDP is reviewing the actions of the Chief Judge of Zamfara State in this violent assault on the Rule of Law and will take appropriate actions necessary.

In any case, the PDP and the people of Zamfara State will not allow the impunity being foisted on Zamfara State to stand and appropriate legal action is being taken in that regard.

Fortunately, our Party has implicit confidence in the judiciary, which has in the past demonstrated its capacity and ability to defend the Constitution and the Rule of Law by reinstating elected public officials who were unconstitutionally and illegally removed from office as was in the case of former Oyo State Governor Rasheed Ladoja as well as that of former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Ali Olanusi.

The PDP urges the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed Gusau not to be deterred by the illegality but remain focused at this critical time.

PRESIDENT BUHARI: LEADERS WHO SWEAR BY THE HOLY BOOK MUST NOT ABUSE PUBLIC OFFICE

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Lafia said leaders who take the oath of office, swearing with the Holy Book, must be careful not to abuse the trust of leadership placed on them by the people and God.

Speaking at a courtesy visit to the palace of Emir of Lafia, retired Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad 1 , the President reaffirmed that he has no intention whatsoever to stay beyond the constitutionally recognised two terms of office as leader of Nigeria.

”The traditional ruler is on a terminal appointment. Constitutionally, we (elected public office holders) are not. I cannot go beyond two terms and I have sworn by the Holy Quran that I will uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

”Politics apart, whenever we are made to swear by the Holy Quran, we have to be very careful. We must make sure that we do not abuse the trust God has given us as leaders.

”I have seen former Governors here and I am looking forward to also becoming a former President,” he said.

President Buhari thanked the people of Nasarawa State for a rousing welcome, expressing delight that the North-Central State was wearing a new look since his last visit in 2019.

He congratulated the immediate past Governor and Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and the incumbent, Governor Abdullahi Sule for the laudable initiatives and accomplishments in the State.

Welcoming the President to the over 200-year old palace, the Emir of Lafia thanked him for ending the problem of insufficient power to Nasarawa State with the provision of 330kVA sub-station.

The Emir, who is also the Chairman, Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, told the President that the provision of the electricity plant ”has taken out 80 percent of our problem.”

”Our people have never had it so good. Our people are back to their normal life as entrepreneurs, ” he said, adding that the Federal Government projects that were ”standing as ghosts” in the state in the past have now become a reality.

The retired jurist listed the newly inaugurated CBN Building in Lafia, the Federal Secretariat, UBEC Smart School and completed Ecological projects, just to mention but a few.

On arrival in the capital for his 2-day State Visit to Nasarawa, President Buhari inaugurated the Lafia Airport, Vocational and Skills Acquisition Centre, Modern Bus Terminal and the Shinge-Barkini Abdullahi-Kilema road, executed by the State Government.

He also inaugurated CBN Lafia Branch building and a 330kva Akurba Transmission Substation executed by the Federal Government through the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) to boost power supply in the state and its environs.

Electoral Act: PDP Congratulates Nigerians…Urges Nigerians to Take Charge of Polling Units in 2023

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congratulates Nigerians, particularly Civil Society Organizations for fighting on the side of the PDP in putting pressure on President Muhammadu Buhari to finally assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill today.

The party also salutes the courage of PDP and other opposition members in the National Assembly for standing their ground on the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill which among other things principally provided for the electronic transmission of election results directly from the polling units.

The newly signed Electoral Act is a death knell for the All Progressives Congress (APC) which thrives in manipulations, ballot box snatching, ballot box stuffing and alteration of election results at the collation centers against the expressed Will of the people.

It is clear that President Buhari and the deflated APC had come to their wits end and bowed to the sustained pressure by the PDP and Nigerians for the entrenchment of processes that can guarantee free, fair, transparent and credible elections in 2023.

The victory by Nigerians in resisting the APC and compelling President Buhari to sign the new Electoral Act clearly signposts the inevitable triumph of the Will and aspiration of the people to kick out the APC through a process that ensures that votes cast at the polling units count.

The PDP calls on Nigerians not to rest on their oars but to further strengthen their resolve by rallying themselves to take charge of their polling units and ensure that their votes are transparently counted and transmitted in the 2023 general elections.

Nigerians must note that the APC in its desperation will not give up easily but attempt to device other means to frustrate credible elections in the country.

Our Party therefore charges Nigerians and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be at alert and resist all shenanigans of the APC ahead of the 2023 elections.

While commending the International Community for standing on the side of democracy in Nigeria, the PDP counsels President Buhari to further redeem his image by reining in his party members who are reportedly seeking to deploy the instrumentality of violence to frustrate the efforts for free, fair and credible elections in 2023.

Politics: Participate, vote, advocate good governance, Okowa charges Nigerians

Delta Governor, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday, called on Nigerians, particularly Christians, to participate actively in the political process through voting at elections and in advocacy for good governance and credible leadership.

The governor made the call in a Keynote Address  entitled “The Christian and Responsibility” which he delivered at the Standing Committee Meeting of Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) held at All Saints Catheral, Rumuokwurusi, Port-Harcourt.

He said that Christians must exercise their right to vote and elect leaders that would govern them, adding that it was doubtful if 50 per cent of eligible voters among Christians voted at elections.

Okowa pointed out that it would be uncharitable for any Nigerian, including Christians, to complain about political issues and bad governance when he or she did not participate in electoral processes.

“I say this because many Nigerians seem to have convinced themselves that votes do not count, but let me hasten to add that they are greatly mistaking.

“Votes count, and refusing to vote is what gives room for the bad guys to manipulate the process.

“I, therefore, call on every Bible-believing Christian to go and register to vote. I believe we can all afford to pay the price to elect the right people into office.

“If we fail in this civic responsibility, we lose our right to complain about bad governance or incompetent leadership,” he said.

He urged religious and political leaders to sharpen their spirit of discernment and ask God for wisdom in responding to public enquiries.

According to him, Christians must show good examples in their work places, and those who profess faith in Christ must honour and obey earthly governments to ensure law and order and promote good governance.

“Our first responsibility as citizens of an earthly nation is to respect and obey the laws of the land.”

Urging Christians to ensure that they paid tax, the governor said “governments all over the world need taxes to be able to fulfil the obligations of good governance, employment generation, effective transportation, quality education, decent housing, efficient justice system, public security and safety.

“It is an open secret that in Nigeria, only public sector workers and those in the organised private sector pay taxes and that is because it is deducted at source through the PAYE system.

“The rest of the population avoid paying tax and for the reason that governments are corrupt, wasteful and inefficient but the word of God does not excuse Christians from this responsibility under any circumstance.”

He said that as the conscience of the nation, religious leaders had a responsibility to maintain an independent, unbiased and non-partisan approach in matters of politics and governance.

“When religious leaders publicly identify with a political party, they create problems for themselves and their ministry; they lose the right and ability to reach those in the other parties with the message of the gospel.”

He urged Christians to prayerfully assess candidates and vote for those with demonstrable capacity to lead, proven record in leadership, probity and moral backbone to withstand temptation and shun corruption.

“We must not vote for a candidate along ethnic or sectional lines; we should not even vote on religious and denominational basis because there are hucksters who use religion for political gain.

“Faith-based NGOs must take the lead in the advocacy in fighting for social justice, advocate for the right persons to be elected to office and set agenda for governments at national and sub-national levels.

“And, Christians should desist from the habit of criticising and condemning political leaders, but should not be mute when they are violating the rights of the people, engaging in acts inimical to good governance, or impoverishing the people through unpopular policies.

“We must let our leaders and representatives know where we stand and hold them accountable to God’s standards of truth, righteousness and justice,” he stated.

Primate of Church of All Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev’d Henry Ndukuba, commended Okowa for his people-oriented and sensitive leadership.

He said that the Church was honouring Governors Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Darius Ishaku (Taraba), Willie Obiano (Anambra), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Babagana Zulum (Borno) and Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, for courageous and purposeful leadership in challenging times.

Ndukuba added that the six leaders were chosen across religions and denominations in recognition of their huge sacrifices in providing good governance for the people.

WE ARE NOT A PARTY OF VIOLENCE, DELTA PDP TELLS NWAOBOSHI

The Delta State PDP has lampooned Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, the present Senator representing Delta North Senatorial Zone in the National Assembly, over his boast to defeat PDP in Delta State by any means possible, including violence, in the next general elections, describing it as attention-seeking rabble, from a failed politician who knows he has nothing else to offer.

Reacting to Chief Nwaoboshi’s comments, made while congratulating the newly sworn-in APC Exco in the State, Delta State PDP Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, in a Press Statement, reminded the Delta North Senator that his present mandate in the National Assembly, is by the grace of the PDP and he had since outlived his usefulness and had become an embarrassing liability, with his calculated and dubious anti-party actions and comments, even long before he shamelessly decamped to the APC.

Dr. Osuoza’s statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to comments credited to Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, a former State Chairman of our party and former Senator of the PDP, which was reported in several media thus: ‘There’s no rigging plan that I don’t know. The battle has started. It’s total war. Not the war involving the use of firearms; but they will have themselves to blame should they try that’.

“We have no reason to doubt that such comments were uttered by Chief Nwaoboshi, as they are not remarkably different from his typically verbose and puerile utterings, in his futility to discredit the PDP, since he jumped into the sinking APC boat, in the assumed hope of temporarily escaping the looming indictment of an already done and dusted forensic audit report.

“Indeed, Chief Nwaoboshi had already outlived his usefulness to the PDP and had become an embarrassing liability to the party with his anti-party actions and posturings, right from the very commencement of the 9th Senate when, like a traitor without any iota of political integrity, proudly and in the public glare, became an outstanding turncoat and shameless fifth columnist in the election of the new Senate President.

“We are even surprised that a politician who has achieved all his political fortunes under the steady umbrella of the PDP, will be making comments suggesting rigging and violence. Ironically, we do not recall any extraordinary incidences of rigging and violence in the two Senatorial elections which Senator Nwaoboshi won under the PDP, or is he now confessing to the world that he achieved his Senatorial election victories by violence and rigging? What a shameless man, cutting his nose to spite his face.

“Peter Nwaoboshi knows that the PDP is not a party of violence and we have no reason to rig any election because the PDP is the most popular, the most organized, the most prepared, and the most beloved party of Deltans, comprehensively accepted and unanimously embraced across the length and breadth, nooks and crannies of the entire Delta State.

“It is a political truism that when you are very popular and win elections by landslides, your detractors quickly console themselves by jumping to conclusions that there was rigging. That has been the lot of the opposition in Delta State, in all the forms and nomenclatures they have manifested, to contest in every election cycle.

“We want to emphatically remind Mr. Nwaoboshi and indeed all those beating that drum of stubbornness for him, of what happened to the stubborn fly that refused to listen to good advise, and to assure him that no matter what rigging, violence or even judicial abracadabra the APC is plotting and planning, the PDP is already primed once again, to coast home to victory in 2023 and nothing can stop what has already been destined.

“As for Nwaoboshi, on a personal note, we want to tell him categorically that PDP made him who he is politically, and a politician can never be greater than his maker, for, like that proverb which he knows so well, the Okro (AKA: Abelmoschus esculentus, in case you didn’t know), can never be taller than the person who planted it. The PDP will always bend him to size effortlessly and cut him off without any qualms or stress at all, and there’s absolutely nothing he can do about it.

=N=12 Billion Loan and Delta APC’s Small Brain

Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has again called attention to the deception of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, disguised in its cry of wolf where there is none.

The nauseating and brazen distortion this time is propagandized in its latest Press Release titled: “Yet Another 12 Billion Naira Loan on the Neck of Deltans, Thanks To Okowa And Delta PDP,” signed by one Dr. Omene Edafe, posturing as Director of Publicity, in which it tried to cast aspersions on, and reduce to a trifle, a serious aspect of governance involving the sourcing of funds to execute government projects.

The PDP response, delivered in a Press Release by its State Publicity Secretary, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, dismissed the APC’s rant as cheap and a non-event.

It states: “From the uncouth language used to spread its disingenuous information, it is obvious that the aim is to sell a dummy to Deltans by attempting to paint the actions of the Government of Governor Okowa, the PDP and the vibrant Delta State House of Assembly that approved the Governor’s loan request, after a careful consideration in bad light.

“Unfortunately for the new APC Executive that came into place via a largely disputed Congress that only got the approval of the court, it is not a surprise that the new helmsman would want to show presence, that they are now in charge and prove to the remaining but discomfited party faithful, by creating false hopes and reaching out to their bag of evil plots, to assail the person of Governor Okowa and the ever soaring profile of the PDP.

APC’s claims failed on many scores: First, it did not base its claims on any analysis of facts. Rather, it displayed grammar and highfalutin language that signifies nothing. For instance, the APC statement said:

“Once again the cash and carry Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led administration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has connived with the Delta State House of Assembly to obtain a humongous loan of 12 billion naira in a most opaque manner and for highly questionable purposes of absolutely no relevance whatsoever to the good people of Delta State.”

“In the foregoing, it’s clear that the APC failed in subsequent paragraphs to prove that the loan request was obtained in “a most opaque manner. Of course, the foolish APC new EXCO wants to obfuscate issues and confuse the unwary that writing to get approval of the House of Assembly is not a fulfillment of the constitutional demand to get the approval of the House.

“It is therefore curious how the dishonest APC would want to hide the fact that Governor Okowa actually wrote as required to the House. And this showed that there was nothing misty about it as the Governor in his letter to the Assembly also clearly stated what the loan request was meant for. Besides, he also told the lawmakers the source for the recovery of the loan facility, meaning that the loan would be repaid before the administration ends.

“The thoughtless APC also stated for mischief, with a view to mislead, that the loan request was meant for “highly questionable purposes of absolutely no relevance whatsoever to the good people of Delta State”. Haba APC!

For the sake of our loving members, supporters and ever supportive Deltans, the governor in his letter to the House of Assembly stated as follows: “This bridging finance sum is to be received in six equal consecutive monthly installments of =N=3.037 Billion.

“The House may further note that in a bid to defray arrears of unpaid certificates earned by contractors with respect to completion of some critical ongoing legacy projects awarded by this administration.

“This will also help the State take advantage of the subsisting dry season to galvanise contractors toward completing and achieving significant milestones in the ongoing projects.

“This became necessary to secure bulk funds at minimal costs, pending complete receipts of the Federal Government Nigeria (FGN) bridging finance credits in May 2022.”

This certainly made no sense to the APC, the party with the small brain, whose sham focus is to attack and denigrate the good works of the PDP administration. Unfortunately for them, the good people of Delta State know better and cannot be persuaded to think along the biases of the opposition against the person and government of Governor Okowa and the PDP.

We thank the people of Delta State, our members and party faithful for refusing to give consideration to the APC lies. They should continue to see APC as a party that revels in unabashed falsehood, and so unsuitable to rule in Delta State.

DELTA APC CRYING WOLF WHERE NONE EXIST – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Delta State Chapter has dismissed the latest Press Release by the State All Progressives Congress, APC, titled “DELTA APC REJECTS ASTRONOMICAL HIKE IN SCHOOL FEES IN DELTA STATE BY PDP-LED OKOWA ADMINISTRATION”, describing it as cheap and dangerous propaganda to mislead Deltans with the intent to score cheap political points.

A statement by the Delta PDP State Publicity Secretary Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a spurious and totally provocative, misleading drivel signed by a certain Dr. Omene Odafe, who claims to be the Director of Publicity, APC Delta State.

“We do not wish to join issues with this Dr. Odafe who postures as the new so-called APC Delta Director of Publicity, for the simple reason that we have actually lost count of the very many claimants, charlatans, and pretenders to this title, that we have had to engage in the past four years which, on its own, is a clear affirmation that the APC is still a party in name, without form, structure, and Identity.

“Nevertheless, we equally recognize the desperate effort of this so-called Dr. Odafe and the dire need for him to attract some relevance to justify the fugitive, yet transitory and evanescent nature of his new status, and thus, it behoves us, as a responsible political party to clear the air and doubts on the misleading issue of ‘hike in school fees’ just to humour him, by setting the records straight for Deltans.

  1. The erudite, dynamic, and performing Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, the distinguished Professor Andy Egwuyenga, has already cleared the air and set the records straight on the issue of new fees with his statement thus: “The adjustment is only for incoming students. No increase for stale students. There’s too much ignorance about the emergent issues involved.

”DELSU is still among the least fee-paying universities in Delta State. Some people have made it a sign of heroism to insult me. I take them in good faith. In time to come, the farsightedness in DELSU’s decision will become obvious. DELSU is on the rise and now very competitive as a University. We must swallow the bitter pill now for a sustainable higher education.

”To cushion the pains, we now have installment payment of fees and Students work-study program for indigent students to earn extra money while studying. 50% of the work-study is reserved for new students, whose fees have been increased. As for the doctored audio, people can choose what to believe.”

  1. It is also on record that amongst all the State-owned Universities across the Country, Delta State Universities are amongst the few least fee-paying institutions in the Country for new intakes, stale students, indigenes, and non-indigenes. We, therefore, advise Dr. Odafe, as he embarks on his new onerous and thankless assignment as the latest, interim APC spokesperson, to at least bring some credibility to his status, by doing a little bit of research before rushing to publish in the public space.

  1. In fact and from available, incontrovertible facts, APC States are currently charging far more than DELSU for universities and we want to warn Deltans to beware of APC hypocrisy in its statement, because like universities in APC controlled States, they plan to charge even more, if they manage to achieve the impossible, by smuggling themselves into any kind of position of power and authority.

  1. It is obvious that the APC is completely ignorant of the fact that the Higher Education system is largely autonomous and, like is the best practice worldwide, the management of these institutions evolve policies to sustain and upgrade their standards, without being dictated to by the government.

  1. Sadly again, is the unfortunate situation that APC is merely playing politics with education and not concerned about facts on the escalating cost of higher education, especially at the Federal level, where the APC led government’s mismanagement of education is glaringly manifested and it is part of this incompetence that has led to perennial and unending strikes in Universities, which Nigerian students and parents are now suffering.

  1. Let us equally state categorically here, that the establishment of new universities by the government has democratized higher education and opened access to more Deltans and this is one of the major reasons Deltans will continue to reject APC, because it has no good plans for our children and people.

  1. For the avoidance of doubt, let’s state it clearly once again, that the PDP government in the State is still and will continue to support higher education far more than other State Governments.

  1. We wish to also draw the attention of the ignorant APC to a well-circulated official press statement from THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT, STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT, DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY, in which the very articulate students’ union leader, Amb. Cyprian Odifili, set out in very brilliant and unambiguous clarity, the efforts of the students union body, to dialogue with all parties including the obviously sponsored “concerned citizens”, as well as the management of DELSU, which are already yielding excellent results.

  1. As for the other silly innuendos and flippant gibberish by the loquacious APC, on the sterling, well documented, and universally applauded performance of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in the delivery of legacy infrastructural projects and unparalleled good governance, we just want to say that we have heard it all before and we didn’t expect less from Dr. Odafe, who is obviously in a frenzy to impress his new masters that he is equal to the task of promoting a shapeless, formless political party that is confused, fractured, factionalized and completely non-existent, except in name alone.

It is a shame that, in this day and age when Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have been embraced wholeheartedly across the globe as major economic initiatives to create entrepreneurs, and most growing economies are now private sector driven, the hapless APC still has the analog mindset of creating white-collar jobs in a 21st-century economy, instead of applauding the postmodern initiatives of STEP, YAGEP, PPSP, the Micro Credit Scheme and other skills training and support programmes which have created hundreds of thousands of young Delta entrepreneurs already.

Finally, let us assure the APC in Delta State that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa (Ekwueme) is not and will never be distracted by these puerile and kindergarten efforts of the APC, to rake up futile and unnecessary misinformation about the issue of fees in Delta State Universities, in the collective effort towards building and consolidating a #StrongerDelta for Deltans.

Those who value education will soon realise that in the fullness of time, some of these measures will begin to yield results and like the eminent Prof. Egwuyenga said: “In time to come the far-sightedness in DELSU’s decision will become obvious. DELSU is on the rise and now very competitive as a University. We must swallow the bitter pill now for a sustainable higher education”.

APC should therefore stop inciting unsuspecting Deltans to violence, actions capable of breaching the peace and allow genuine well-meaning stakeholders to employ dialogue, which is already ongoing, to address and resolve any and all grey areas.

House receives reports on 68 amendment bills, set to begin voting on March 2, as Aisha Buhari visits to canvass support for women

The House of Representatives on Wednesday admitted reports on 68 bills seeking to further amend the 1999 Constitution.

The reports were presented and laid by the Deputy Speaker of the House and Chairman of the Special Adhoc Committee on Review of the 1999 Constitution, Rep. Ahmed Idris Wase.

Wednesday’s session was presided over by the Speaker, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Voting on the bills will begin on Wednesday, next week, to last two days.

By the provisions of Section 9 of the constitution, a bill seeking to alter any part of the constitution must secure the vote of two-thirds (240) of the 360 members of the House to pass.

Gbajabiamila had already asked every member to endeavour to attend the two sittings next week (Wednesday and Thursday) when the votes would be taken on the proposed amendments.

He described the proposed amendments as “far-reaching.”

Ahead of the presentation of the reports, the First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, visited lawmakers on Wednesday and was admitted into the chamber to observe proceedings.

The first lady visited to canvass support for at least three of the bills, which deal with issues relating to women, especially participation in politics, appointments, gender balancing and gender-based violence.

The bills are, “Bill for an Act to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to Provide for Special Seat for Women in the National and State Houses of Assembly; and for Related Matters”; “Bill for an Act to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to Provide for Affirmative Action for Women in Political Party Administration; and for Related Matters”; and “Bill for an Act to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to, Provide Reserved Quota for Women; and for Related Matters.”

Mrs Buhari visited in company with some female ministers, among them the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen; Minister of Finance/Budget/National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed; and several women groups.

Welcoming the visitors, Speaker Gbajabiamila thanked them for devoting time to follow up on the bills and push for their passage.

The Speaker formally informed his colleagues on the reason for the visit, which he said was to observe the presentation of the reports and be part of the lobbying process.

“Our reports have three provisions that will affect women positively.

“However, there is still a lot of work and lobbying to be done.

“The reports will be considered next week, beginning from Wednesday”, Gbajabiamila stated.

The speaker commended the first lady for using the weight of her office to support many causes in the country, especially for the wellbeing of women and other groups.

Mrs Buhari, after observing the proceedings, was given permission by the House to take a bow, approach the Speaker’s Chair to greet him, before being led out of the chamber by the Chief Whip, Rep. Mohammed Tahir Monguno.

“I was an excellent father but a woeful husband’’ Nigerian Actor and Producer, Jim Iyke discusses his marriage, spirituality and a lot more

On a new episode of #WithChude, ace Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke sits with the host of #WithChude and co-founder of Joy, Inc., Chude Jideonwo about his journey in the creative industry, dealing with the loss of his mother, his experience with grief, and his failed marriage.

Speaking during the interview, Jim Iyke shares: “There is a part of me that will take the easy route. Every time I did something mediocre in my life, I always did it when I was emotional, because I am extremely strategic and deliberate about everything I do.

I had suffered a loss. My mom was like my best friend, my co partner. People always wonder how he rise from some of these scandals, how he rises from things that are supposed to bury him. I had someone that speaks to a spirit part of me that nobody can speak to and I lost that. When I lost my mom, I could not find my feet for years. The lifestyle, spirituality, connection had already been lost.

I was not told until 72 hours after she passed. I was right in the middle of an interview in London. On the plane, while on my way back home after 72 hours, I asked myself, ‘What would she have expected of me? To take charge.

I came and I took charge as the head of the family, I couldn’t grief, I could not let myself feel.

When I was getting over it. My wife was pregnant with my first son. I had a quiet space. There was nobody to take care of, and because that was my medium to heal. All of a sudden the grief hit me, the loss hit me. I could not sleep unending days, I became irritable. I was no longer the loving man she married.

I lost my sense of humor. I lost the lion in me, and the leader in me. I just gave myself to the elements and she suffered for that. I became an obsessive dad, I took everything in me to my son and left her behind. I took all of my love and attention and I left her behind”

The Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities on the 15th of February, 2022 paid a courtesy Visit to the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Abeokuta. In our interaction with Chief Obasanjo, he expressed his concern in the area of our Educational Sector and mentioned that one of the things we haven’t gotten right in Nigeria is EDUCATION and if we get it right; it will be the basis of getting a number of other things right.

He summed up with the saying that goes ‘’ If you think Education is Expensive, try Ignorance”.

Discussing significant events that occurred during his tenure, he shared his thought on why the President or Governor should have the final say in the Appointment of a Vice-chancellor in Universities; and advised that the Council should be solely in charge after giving criteria and have made nominations.

Obasanjo also mentioned that he believes in Education, Education for everyone and at all levels.  And also, that the interactions between the University and the Towns (Community) are not enough, they need to know what the University about.

Lastly, with regards Leadership, his advice to New Vice-Chancellors would be that; they be should be good Administrators, Sound Academically and most importantly be good in Fundraising.

Women in the Niger Delta region on Wednesday praised Senator Godswill Akpabio for contributing immensely to the social, economic and political development of the country.

‘’The picture in the Niger Delta region is different. It has been thirty months of development and clear evidence of competence’’.

A statement issued in Port Harcourt by the spokesperson of the Niger Delta Women Reconstruction Group (NDWRC), Dr. Anitorufa Peremoboere commended the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs for his exceptional commitment and performance.

The statement hailed Akpabio for shouldering the heavy responsibility with calmness, giving his best for the good of the Niger Delta people and pursuing with vigour and determination the change agenda of the current administration.

‘’Senator Godswill Akpabio is a beacon of hope and inspiration to the generality of our people’’

The women applauded Akpabio for accelerating the growth of the region, strengthening administrative infrastructure, improving staff quality and efficiency and working in complete harmony with the National Assembly.

‘’No state is shut out in the ministry’s development agenda’’

They praised the former Akwa Ibom State governor for using his expertise and intellectual capacity to address long standing challenges in the region.

‘’We need Senator Godswill Akpabio in 2023. The former Akwa Ibom State governor will not run out of Nigeria. We’ll put pressure on him to take part in the 2023 election. His name will be on the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary ballot’’

The women also commended him for raising the standard of living of the people through water and electrification schemes, road development, education and health-care delivery.

‘’We are most grateful to Senator Godswill Akpabio for the peace of the region, construction of roads and drainages and the well-being of the people’’

The statement emphasized hard work, integrity, efficiency, dignity and discipline.

‘’We disagree in toto with the points of view of some chronic grumblers outside the region’’

The women urged Akpabio’s critics to reckon with the realities, cease advertising ignorance and living in a fool’s paradise.’

‘’Akpabio’s critics do not believe in development for the Niger Delta region.

The statement also underscored the mad ambition of some politicians to mount the saddle of NDDC leadership and to share the resources to themselves and cronies.

‘’Not only there is a tendency to compare the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) with North East Development Commission (NEDC), but it appears to be the vogue of fake contractors, corrupt politicians and their agents to prejudice the minds of some Nigerians by deliberate lies and perversion of the truth’’

Delta 2023: Ijaw Youths chart way forward

SAMSUNG CSC

President of Ijaw Progressive Youth Ambassadors, Comrade Arepade Ebitonmo, on Tuesday called for level playing field in the Delta State 2023 governorship election.

At a gathering of Ijaw youths in Bomadi to chart the way forward for Delta State, the IPYA President exuded confidence in the Ijaw Nation producing the next governor.

‘’Political parties in Delta State must ensure that each senatorial district is treated fairly in the 2023 governorship election’’.

The meeting under the aegis of Ijaw Progressive Youth Ambassadors (IPYA) was attended by thousands of youths.

The IYPA President said there were no doubts as to whether the Ijaw Nation would produce the next governor of Delta State.

‘’There abound many Ijaw people who are well qualified to be governor of Delta State in 2023’’.

The Ijaw youth leader said the next governor should be someone from Ijaw extraction.

‘’The 2023 governorship election will be quite different from 2019. There is nothing like zoning. There is no written agreement about power shift in Delta State. There should be level playing field. All the zones should participate in the 2023 governorship election’’

Comrade Ebitonwo, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in Bomadi Local Government, advised youths in other senatorial areas to jettison zoning and ensure an Ijaw man becomes Delta State governor in 2023.

“The time has come to make sacrifices. Let us bury our differences. The time is ripe for a governor of Ijaw extraction. Let us mobilize to push an Ijaw person in the interest of our state and the future” he said.

He also called on the the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), ijaw National Congress (INC), ijaw Mandate Group (IMG) and other stakeholders to unite and work for the victory of the Ijaw Nation in 2023.

‘’Ijaw must unite. We must be together to win the 2023 governorship election’’ he added.

Julius Berger joins private sector stakeholders to launch HIV Trust Fund in Nigeria

Julius Berger Nigeria Plc recently joined other private sector stakeholders to launch the 62.1 Billion Naira (US$150 Million) HIV Trust Fund of Nigeria (HTFN).

The HIV Trust Fund of Nigeria (HTFN) is a private sector-led initiative of both the public and the private sectors. It is aimed at ensuring sustainable mobilization of funds towards the eradication of AIDS in Nigeria, starting with the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Julius Berger Nigeria Plc is donating a sum of 56 million naira as part of the funds needed to set the trust in motion. The company is one of the Trust Fund’s five Funding Trustee member organisations and was represented at the event by its Managing Director, Engr. Dr. Lars Richter.

The Fund was officially launched by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Villa Banquet Hall and had in attendance ministers, senior government functionaries, captains of industry, important members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the United Nations (UN), global leaders in the fight against HIV&AIDS, and members of the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDs in Nigeria.

It was described by global health leaders, as an important milestone in driving the next stage of the fight against HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. Themed “No child in Nigeria should be born with HIV; no child in Nigeria should be an orphan because of HIV; no child in Nigeria should die due to lack of access to treatment”, Ms. Winnie Byanyima, who is the Executive Director UNAIDS, in her keynote address, described the initiative as laudable, because, according to her, “2 out of every 3 women in Nigeria currently do not receive any HIV test during pregnancy which poses serious risks of infection to their babies”.

THE MAN THE CAP FITS –

BY UBONG GEORGE

Since Governor Samuel Ortom launched into the political landscape of Benue Sate in 1991 as the Chairman of Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, his profile has continued to be in an upswing mode, knowing no other life other than the public service, where he has recorded unprecedented landmark achievements.

Governor Ortom”s current ambition to become the next  Senator  representing Benue North West Senatorial District on the platform of the People Democratic Party, PDP  come 2023, is expected, by the Grace of God, to earn another feather on his cap.

He’s a smart politician whose profile has become so intimidating and very remarkable that it will take only the initiated in the polity to know exactly where he is coming from. Little wonder, the entire political circuit in the state even beyond his senatorial district have been rooting for this man of cool mien and silent achievements, much to the bewilderment and backing of all stakeholders in the state and beyond. Even the opposition political groups  have suddenly become jittery and apprehensive over Ortom’s ambition because to them, it’s no longer fear of the unknown rather fear of the very known, given his antecedents in the public , private and political  spaces.

Today, the fear of Samuel Ortom  becoming the Senator representing Benue North West  has rapidly become the beginning of wisdom for other contestants. It is common knowledge that despite all the mischief and grandstanding to ruffle Governor  Ortom , the man seems not bothered; he’s only focusing  on the task ahead.

But, does Governor  Ortom think about any fear about all these? No, as all permutations, calculations and arithmetic are pointing in one positive direction for the undisputed widely acclaimed man of the moment in the entire State in particular and in Nigeria in general.

Many of the political juggernauts in the party and stakeholders across the seven local government areas in the Senatorial Districts  have come to a consensus about his candidacy and eventual support for him to become the next occupant of Benue North West Senatorial Seat come 2023.

Governor of Benue State is a Nigerian Industrialist ,administrator,  farmer , businessman, employer and philanthropist  .He was was born on 23rd April, 1961 in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

Young Samuel Ortom  started his primary education at the famous St John Primary School, Gboko , Benue State between 1970 and 1974 . In 1974, he moved to St Catherine’s Primary School Secondary  where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1974.Ortom proceeded to Idah Secondary Commercial, Idah. Kogi State .

However , in 1979, Ortom’s education was truncated for financial reasons after his father retired from civil service  and his subsequently unable to pay his school fees . Samuel Ortom left school and worked at Gboko park in order to support his family and to also shape his destiny.  He was subsequently assisted by a good spirited Nigerian ,who taught him how to drive and obtained a driver’s licence  for him  He became a professional driver  and a driver to Pa SamueI Ihur , a prominent Gboko based Christian leader and a politician to make ends meet.

It was in the course of working that he found an advert for a correspondence course in the National School of  Salesmanship, Manchester by cocorrespondence. Through it Ortom obtained a diploma in salesmanship as well as the General Certificate of Education. In 1995, he obtained the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Certificate from Ahmadu Bello University,Zaria in Kaduna State .  In 1998, Ortom  obtained a diploma in Journalism from the same University. In 2001, Ortom obtained an advanced diploma in Personal Management from Benue State University . In 2004, he obtained a Masters Degree in Public Administration. Governor Ortom then engaged in distance learning that got him a Ph.D in Philosophy from Commonwealth University, Belize

Governor Samuel Ortom’s active and  impressive political career began when he contested and won  the Chairmanship election of Guma Local Government Area. He was chairman from 1991to 1993 under the platform of Social Democratic Party .In addition, his eventful sojourn in politics resulted in him holding several high ranking positions including  the State Publicity Secretary of National Centre Party of Nigeria , NCP ; State Treasurer of  All Peoples Party and State Secretary as well  Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Benue State where he  played a very distinguished and  active part  in the politics of State ,bringing to bear his exposure and wealth of experience . Dr Ortom was also Director of Operations of the PDP gubernatorial campaign in Benue State in 2007 and Director of Administration and Logistics of the Goodluck /Sambo Presidential Campaign Organization in 2011. He was PDP National Auditor before his appointment as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in July 2011. He served simultaneously and meritoriously as Minister of State for Industries , Trade and Investment and Supervising Minister of Aviation .

In 2014 ,Governor  Samuel Ortom announced his intention to contest for the coveted office of the Governor of Benue on the platform of PDP

He therefore resigned as Minister of State , Industry,  Trade and Investment. However, due to  some internal bickering that bared  its face in his gubernatorial ambition, he listened  to  the advice of his supporters and other stakeholders to seek an alternative party to pursue his governorship ambition,  a decision he took with an unusual calm and philosophical approach, even in the face of outright condemnation by his assumed cronies in the PDP fold of the state. He contested for Governor of Benue SState. He eventually won the election in April 2015 on  the platform of All Progressive Congress , APC,

In July 2018, Ortom announced his departure from All Progressives Congress and defected to the PDP when the people of Benue came under sustained attacks from Fulani and following apparent failure of the ruling All Progressive Congress to respond to the  what he considered to be the Presidency’s failure to curb what  he sees as murderous and expansionist incursion of the Fulani herders into Benue State , a  largely agrarian state,  coupled with  the hostility and campaigned of hatred , calumny and blackmail towards him from the leadership of the party in the state.  Governor Ortom  was faced with the difficult choice of either toeing the line of the party in Abuja or stand to defend the people of the state  felled by bullets believed to be from the flanks of the Fulani herdsmen .With all the threats , intimidation and outright blackmail even by highly placed persons within the State and the Presidency  who ordinarily should have offered some sort of succor  to the Governor and the people of the State , he refused to abandon his people ,

As  a politician with a human and sensitive spirit he suspended campaigns for  his governorship ambition for one month so as to concentrate on efforts to resolve the crisis and bring succor to his people . His reasoning was that it did not make sense to continue with political activities in pursuit of his ambition when the people he wished to govern were under continuous siege with hundreds being killed. For him , his administration would be worthless if he abandoned his people.

Governor Ortom stood like the Rock of Gibraltar and declared ‘ I am here as Governor because of the people of Benue State , whatever happens to them happens to me. I am a true descendant of my forefathers . I cannot abandon my people’.

For Governor Ortom , whose state has arguably been the hottest spot of the herders/farmers crisis in Nigeria with a record of close to ten thousand deaths and over one million displaced persons, if defending his people would cost him the governorship so be it ;but he was convinced that history would be kind to him as a man who stood to be counted when it mattered.Ortom stood his ground in his determination to speak for the disadvantaged and the dispossessed, the denigrated and the dehumanized, the subjugated and the subverted  on the anti open grazing law and dared anyone to flaunt it even as the death toll piled up . He stood and wept with his people and defied the presidency that appeared to give tacit approval to the mass killings with its complicit silence and lack of action .. Within the period he collaborated  with  the friends of the state  and stakeholders within the state  to find a permanent solution to the cold murder of the defenceless  . Governor Ortom extensively toured the affected areas, donating relief materials to internally displaced persons.

It is noteworthy that this collaborative effort yielded results as the attacks were subdued while concerted peace building efforts were put in place to forestall future occurrences

For this humane gesture,  he went on to win with a landslide the PDP primary election in October 2018 as the party  candidate for the 2019 elections .

When the 2019 election came , Benue people decided that it was time to reward a man who had shown that he is their leader , a man who chose their interest at the risk of his safety and political career . The people overwhelmingly voted for Ortom and he convincingly won the 2019 Benue State Gubernatorial Election defeating his closest challenger  , the candidate of All Progressive Congress , APC . He polled 434, 473votes , while the runner up Emmanuel Jime polled 345155votes .Jime legally challenged Ortom’s victory and filed a petition on the grounds of substantial  non –compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act , 2010 as amended . The Supreme Court on the 21st  January 2020 affirmed Samuel Ortom’s election as the duly elected Governor of Benue State  APC, He began his second term in March 2019  on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party

DEFENDER OF BENUE VALLEY

Without  any ambiguity  the Governor stands out as a pillar and beacon of hope for the people as he has put in place  the best solution to the incessant unprovoked attacks on Benue farmers through the enactment of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law 2017. He has consistently insisted on the full implementation of the Law which he argues rightly is the global best practice in animal  husbandry. Despite pressure from powerful forces both within and outside the state that the Law be repealed or suspended, the Governor has doggedly stood his ground to defend the Benue Valley thus earning him the highly prized title of ‘Defender of the Benue Valley’

Governor  Ortom  name will not only remain evergreen in the annals of history of Benue in  particular , but in Nigeria as whole When the history of the great effort to end open grazing of livestock in Nigeria shall be written Governor Ortom’s name shall be written in Gold as one Governor who exercised  an inalienable right in accordance with the  Constitution of the Federal Republic  to make laws for peace and good governance  for the people of Benue State whom he promised to protect and secure  their lives and property when  he was sworn in as the fifth democratically elected Governor of Benue in 2015 and 2019 respectively

The People of the State will forever live to salute him for restoring the  battered  hope of the farming population of the State which has earned the State the Food basket of the Nation

This success story  shall be a permanent legacy not only for Benue State people but for Nigerians as a whole. He has already made himself a hero.

According to Martin Luther King Jnr, the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moment of comfort and convenience but where he stands in times of challenges and controversy.

As often recognized protecting lives and property remain the cardinal and central pillar on which governance rests and anchored and performance measured  without relative peace and security social growth and  sustainable developmemt of society  cannot proceed

Ortom had no choice  to have done what he did by  invoking  this right, owing to life-threatening activities of this dreaded and unrepentant  herdsmen . It would have amounted to an unpardonable  negligence on the part of  Governor Samuel  Ortom , as a leader , elected to protect  and secure the people of Benue State  to do nothing in the circumstances he found himself.

Governor Samuel Ortom has earned the respect and praises of his friends and foes , they see him as  an  hero who has consistently promised to uphold and defend the Benue People from Fulani Invasion without his dogged determination half of Benue State would have been under forceful occupation

More interestingly, Governor Ortom  crusade won the hearts of all the thirty six  36 Governors of the Federal Republic to the extent that open grazing of livestock is no  longer fashionable and legislations have sprung up all over the country with all the seventeen states taking the bull with the implementation of the widely.

Ahead of 2023 Senatorial Race

The momentum has grown since the much-talked-about Governor Ortom intention to vie for the Benue North West Senatorial Seat which is fast becoming a sure bet, despite a stiff opposition from the APC.

Highly personable and a loyal party man,  Governor Ortom  is a political warrior who has not hidden his intention to run for  the Senate Seat come 2023 and having intensified  consultations with stakeholders within the villages, ninety  council wards and the seven local governments areas  that form the fulcrum of the  senatorial district,

It is widely believed that  with his background , knowledge and experience of the area that makes up Benue East  Senatorial District that  Governor Ortom  has all it takes to represent the senatorial area, having  known  their pains , problems and aspiration,  Governor Ortom  is  a  well equipped to render them the service that they deserve to uplift their status.

These and many more virtues are why Governor Ortom;s name is now on the lips of many genuine and thoughtful  people of Benue North West Senatorial District  who earnestly seek a better and more pro-active replacement for the incumbent Senator , whose development and performance sheets are only on the pages of newspapers, radio and TV stations and of course the social media.

In fact permutations in several  quarters, with the current wave of decamping across the length and breadth of Benue State has further revalidate  that the chances for  the election of Governor Samuel Ioraer Ortom  of Benue  State is to clinch the Benue North West  Senatorial  is very bright.

Many argued and submitted that the Red Chamber requires a man that is  fearless, bold, courageous, vocal and outspoken and all these qualities are embedded in the person of Governor Samuel

However,  there is a need for a  major and timely caution as  to be made by  the people of the senatorial, for everything to be done with utmost foresight and vision. right from the very beginnings. Everything possible should be done to avoid promoting a wrong candidate ahead of the senatorial election  that could end up voting for a wrong candidate in the  2023

. The Bible talks of special articles that are separated and dedicated for noble use. First impressions cannot be made twice. It’s very important that the right candidate should be preferred, fortified, embellished, endorsed and supported from the very blast of the whistle . While there can be no doubt that the present  occupier has done his best  for the common good of  people in general or particular in time past , there is a near astronomic or celestial need to choose the very best and most prospect-full among the aspirants that are presently expressing interest in the  senatorial  race and I believe the reason is obvious. There are candidates and there are candidates; but there are candidates with which to win and candidates that will lead to losing. This is the reality and not a wishful fact.

However, knowledge is tantamount to power they say. The Bible state that people perish for lack of knowledge. This is why it is requisite to give expository knowledge to present relevant insights upon one of the aspirants presently contending for the 2023 senatorial race, so that the people may know him and understand his worth and know why we like and want him; believing that you also will as well like and want him, when you know what we know about him.  “Nyamkyume’. It means very plainly but ingeniously, though not imperceptibly, audacious, bold, brave,  courageous, daring , fearless and gallant , these are some notable paraphernalia about the man,  Governor Samuel Ortom  that mark him out to be preferred for this August role at this present time in the annals of our state and senatorial history.

Furthermore, Governor Ortom  still remains one of the most courageous emerging leader of the Benue valley and can be  lined him up with several great men in history of the world and of all ages, he stands shoulder to shoulder with them for daring to do what others could not .

No doubt,  the past occupiers of this revered red chamber had contributed their quota,  however, the politics of the current dispensation requires men  with Lion heart and Governor Ortom is that Lion called Nyamkyume in Tiv parlance,  not a yes man, a man  who does not only tread with caution, but a man who is conscious and concern with  the needs and yearning of  his  people

,Already as  the race towards 2023 has started in earnest ,  stakeholders in the Benue North West have started  to drumming support with a vow to ensure that nothing stand in the way of  incumbent Governor for the senate seat with  PDP structures comprising the council chairmen and  councilors, party leaders, ,party elders,  political appointees. community leaders  student  community and women group among other groups

More importantly,  it is recorded in the  holy book  that “Except the Lord build the house, the workman labour but in vain”. In all political permutations, the God factor cannot be ruled out. There is a popular saying that “Man proposes but God disposes” and this will play important role in the Senatorial  election of Governor Samuel Ortom.

When he came on board, many prophesied that he will never be the governor of Benue State but God proved them wrong, but the Supreme God showed up. That is behind us and today he is the Governor.

Governor  Ortom is a grass-roots politician loved by the people of the State. He is a well-bred politician and is generous and an epitome of humility who professes strong Christian faith which no doubt has been working for him .He abhors politics of bitterness and always act as a bridge builder in all circumstances

To this end all the votes that count  must be counted in favour of Governor Samuel Ioarernyi Ortom Adorogo, as the next occupier of the senate seat come 2023 for Benue North West Senatorial District
